Two juveniles arrested following Michigan City park incident

MICHIGAN CITY, Ind. – Two juveniles were arrested following an incident at a park in April, the Michigan City Police Department announced.

At 5 p.m. on April 15, three juveniles came into the police department and said they had just been shot with a BB gun at the park located behind the police station.

The juveniles said they were playing basketball when another group of juveniles approached them.

One member of the second group allegedly took the first group’s basketball and refused to give it back.

When the first group asked for the basketball back, another juvenile in the second group pulled out what looked like a handgun and started shooting towards the first group, hitting two of them with BB’s, reports said.

The juveniles said the gun was a BB gun but that it didn’t have an orange tip on the end of the barrel.

Two juveniles were injured by BB’s.

Following an investigation that included help from the community and those involved, detectives identified juveniles in connection with the incident.

One of the male juveniles was charged with battery with a deadly weapon, criminal recklessness, battery, and theft.

The second juvenile male was charged with theft.
