Two killed when SUV collides with tanker truck

VAN BUREN COUNTY, Mich. -- Two people were killed in a crash at M43 and CR 665 just before noon on Monday, according to the Van Buren County Sheriff's Office.

Central dispatch began receiving 9-1-1 calls about the crash between an SUV and a commercial vehicle around 11:30 a.m.

When deputies arrived, they found the 88-year-old male driver and front seat passenger, an 83-year-old woman, deceased in the SUV.

The preliminary investigation revealed the commercial tanker was traveling eastbound on M43 when the SUV, which was stopped northbound on CR 665, pulled out onto M43 in the path of the tanker.

The tanker struck the driver's side of the SUV.

Alcohol is not believed to be a factor.

The crash remains under investigation.
