Two sent to hospital in Monday morning crash, driver cited

ABC 57

ELKHART COUNTY, Ind. -- The Elkhart County Sheriff's Office reports deputies responded to the intersection of S.R. 15 and Industrial Drive around 6:49 a.m., Monday, for a two-vehicle crash.

Authorities say a 2003 Buick LaSabre, driven by 23-year-old Luke Schafer, of Madison, Ind., was traveling northeast on S.R. 15 approaching the intersection with Industrial Drive.

Deputies say a 2013 Chevrolet Malibu, driven by a 65-year-old Nappanee man, was also traveling northeast on S.R. 15 ahead of Schafer when he slowed to turn west onto Industrial Drive.

The report states Schafer was following too closely and rear-ended the Malibu.

After being hit, the Malibu continued into a nearby parking lot.

Schafer's vehicle then came to a stop on the shoulder of S.R. 15, just north of Tarman Road.

The Malibu's driver and his passenger, a 64-year-old Nappanee woman, were taken to Goshen Hospital for complaints of back pain and neck and chest pain respectively.

Schafer was cited for Following Too Closely.
