Two-vehicle crash leaves six people injured, one driver cited with multiple offenses
ELKHART COUNTY, Ind. – A crash at the intersection of CR 17 and CR 45 has left six people injured, including two teens, a six-year-old and five-month-old, and a driver cited with four offenses, the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office said.
According to the report, a 2006 Chevy passenger car was traveling north on CR 17, towards the intersection on CR 45. The second vehicle was facing east on CR 45, heading north onto CR 17.
The Chevy allegedly was speeding, did not stop at the stoplight and hit the other vehicle.
The driver and all five passengers of the Chevy suffered injuries. The two teens and 6-year-old boy in the Chevy had complaints of pain. The five-month-old suffered a broken femur.
Deputies have cited the driver of the Chevy, Julio Velazquez Panama, a 37-year-old Ligonier resident, with operating while intoxicated resulting in serious bodily injuries, never receiving a license, speeding and operating a vehicle with an unrestrained child under 8-years-old.
