UPDATE: Crews search for remains of 3-year-old girl killed in fourplex fire

BERRIEN SPRINGS, Mich. -- Crews are searching for the remains of a 3-year-old girl who was killed in an early morning apartment fire in Berrien Springs on Tuesday.

The fire sparked around 6 a.m. at a fourplex in the 8700 block of Valley View Drive, just north of Andrews University, off of Old U.S. 31.

When firefighters arrived on the scene of the major house fire, witnesses say the building was fully engulfed.

Seven people made it out uninjured.  Two adults and an infant were rushed to the hospital for medical treatment.

Right now, firefighters are sifting through the upstairs apartment where the little girl lived with her family.

We are told that it is a slow process because of the danger involved with the instability of the structure.
