U.S. 31 Bypass reopens following tanker fire, repairs

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The U.S. 31 Bypass has reopened to drivers two days after a gasoline tanker caught fire and caused damage to the road.

According to the Indiana Department of Transportation, the southbound lanes of the bypass reopened Tuesday night around 7 p.m.

Crews had to repave the section of road as temperatures were so hot during the fire that the asphalt melted.
