ABC57 WASHINGTON DC -- On Monday night, the U.S. Senate unanimously passed a resolution to honor the life and legacy of the late Lou Holtz, former head football coach at Notre Dame.
The resolution was introduced by Senators Todd Young (R-Ind.), Chris Coons (D-Del.), and Jim Banks (R-Ind.).
“Lou Holtz spent decades investing in college athletes and encouraging them to become the best versions of themselves on the field and in life. I’m grateful for the impact Coach Holtz made at Notre Dame, and we celebrate his life and legacy. Go Irish,” said Young.
The resolution celebrates Holtz' career as a college football head coach and the traditions he started at the University of Notre Dame, including the "Play Like a Champion Today" sign and the emphasis on teamwork by removing player names from the backs of the jerseys.
“Lou Holtz meant a lot to Indiana and to Notre Dame. He helped shape generations of players and his impact will be felt for a long time to come,” said Banks.
