UPDATE: Driver identified in single-vehicle crash on S.R. 933

UPDATE TWO: Police say the driver was 40-year-old Ashley Kendall of South Bend. Speed appears to be a factor in the crash. Investigators are still waiting on toxicology results.

UPDATE: Police confirm one person has died after crashing into a pole in the area of Darden Road and S.R. 933 near the La Quinta Inn and Suites. 

The vehicle received major front-end damage. 

St. Joseph County officers expect the area to be shut down for at least another hour. 

Names are expected to be released Friday after the family is notified. 

ORIGINAL: ST. JOSEPH COUTNY, Ind. -- The St. Joseph County dispatch confirmed at approximately 10:05 p.m. units responded to a vehicle that crashed into a pole in the area of Darden Road and S.R. 933.  

There was a single occupant in the vehicle, and their condition is unknown at this time. 

St. Joseph County Police Department and Clay Fire are responding to the scene. 

Officials say to avoid the area at this time.
