Victims of SR 23 fatal crash identified following FACT investigation

ST.JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. -- The victims of a fatal crash in St. Joseph County have been identified.

St. Joseph County Sheriff Bill Redman reports a crash at approximately 11:05 p.m. resulted in a fatality Friday evening.

On Mar. 23, 20-year-old Daniel P. Jimenez of Walkerton, Indiana was traveling north in a Mazda 6 on S.R. 23 as 62-year-old Tobey L. Vujnovich of Union Mills, Indiana was traveling south in a Volkswagen minivan on S.R. 23, police say.

Near the 2700 block is where the two vehicles collided, according to a press release from the St. Joseph Prosecutor’s Office.

Evidence gathered at the scene suggests the Mazda struck the Volkswagen in the southbound lane after crossing the center line, officials say.

Jimenez was pronounced deceased at the scene. Vujnovich was transported to Memorial Hospital in serious condition.

The St. Joseph County Police Department was first on scene. The investigation was turned over to the St. Joseph County Fatal Crash Team (FACT) per department protocol.

The crash remains under investigation.
