Volunteering to find a job
BENTON HARBOR, Mich. --Wednesday, groups lined up to recruit people who are out of work.
The message, the best way to find a job is to volunteer.
More than 30 non-profits attended The Annual Volunteer Fair at Lake Michigan College in Benton Harbor.
About 200 people showed up to find a place to volunteer in the area.
The Volunteer Center of Southwest Michigan said that 10 percent of jobs in the state of Michigan are with non-profits and that volunteering could land you a job.
Doris Higgins, with the center said, “It leads to jobs either with that agency or they make connections or if nothing else they feel positive so you go into a job interview and aren't like 'yah I’ve been unemployed', you go in your job interview and are enthused about things."
Next week, The Volunteer Fair will be held at L.M.C’s South Haven Campus.
