Wanted man leads SJCPD on chase Thursday morning in Mishawaka

ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. -- A traffic stop early Thursday morning led St. Joseph County Police on a brief chase before a suspect was arrested for crimes committed during the stop and multiple warrants out of Elkhart County.
Authorities say 39-year-old Rodney Keith Robertson was driving a green Dodge Caravan near the intersection of McKinley Avenue and Twyckenham Drive, in South Bend, when a traffic stop was initiated.
"When the driver refused to stop, a pursuit ensued," the SJCPD said.
"Thanks to the deployment of stop sticks by the Indiana State Police, the chase ended in the Dunkin’ Donuts parking lot, located at 2774 Lincoln Way East, in Mishawaka. Upon stopping, the suspect attempted to flee on foot but was quickly apprehended and taken into custody."
Robertson was wanted on multiple warrants out of Elkhart County for probation violations related to the following charges:
- Escape
- Possession of methamphetamine
- Unlawful possession of a syringe
- Operating a vehicle while endangering a person
- Theft
- Habitual traffic violator
In addition to the existing warrants, Robertson now faces new charges, including Resisting Law Enforcement with a Vehicle and Resisting Law Enforcement on Foot.
"A female passenger in the vehicle was released at the scene and is not facing charges at this time," the SJCPD said. "This pursuit was closely monitored and no one was hurt. Great work by our Warrants Division, Patrol Division, Mishawaka PD, Indiana State Police, and South Bend Police Department."
