Warmer temperatures this weekend comes with rain and storm chances

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Those who were wishing for warmer temperatures, your wish has been granted. Highs this weekend are expected to reach the 80s. Temperatures even have the potential to cross over to the 90s on Monday.

South Bend and surrounding cities typically see their first 90-degree day in June. Within the past 10 years, four of them had a 90-degree high in May. While it isn’t uncommon, it’s still a little ahead of schedule.

The warmer air comes with a cost—rain and storms. With highs peaking in the 80s, dewpoints in the 60s come right along with them. Both of those ingredients together make showers and storms more likely. While forecast models agree on timing of storms, they aren’t solidified with the location. Monday looks to be the best day for potential severe weather.

The European model shows rain and storms are more likely to trend to our south. The GFS model shows storms trending north, with Michiana receiving rain and storms. We are still a few days out scenarios can change within the next few days.
