Washington Park Zoo MICHIGAN CITY, Ind. -- Visitors at the Washington Park Zoo will soon see a set of primate faces.
The zoo announced that a troop of lemurs was rescued and brought to its facility. Zoo officials say nine lemurs were rescued by animal control officers in Texas. It's unknown where they came from, but officials say the lemurs showed signs of past trauma or neglect.
Upon arrival at the zoo, four of the five female lemurs gave birth; one of them gave birth to a set of twins. The male lemurs in the troop will be neutered for health and safety. They will be out at the zoo's Monkey Island once the weather warms and their quarantine concludes.
