Here are just a few of the events and activities going on in the Michiana area this weekend.

Tolson Center presents 'Taste of Mexico'

Tolson Center for Community Excellence

The Tolson Center for Community Excellence is hosting a Latin Festival on Sept. 21 starting at 12 p.m. in honor on Hispanic Heritage Month.

The festival was planned in collaboration with DeliaMar Mega-Shop, Mariscos Don Miguel and other local business owners in the community.

The event will feature many activities such as:

  • authentic cuisines
  • educational displays
  • colorful arts and crafts exhibits
  • dance showcases
  • live music performances

“Tolson is thrilled to bring back a festival to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month. Events like this are a part of our commitment to embrace and honor diversity within our community”, says Breanna Allen, Executive Director of Tolson Center for Community Excellence.

Hispanic Heritage Month is a time to honor the rich cultures, histories, and contributions of Hispanic and Latinx individuals and communities.

The event is open to the public, and all community members are encouraged to attend.

Dangerfest celebrates 10 years in Pierceton

Dangerfest is celebrating 10 years in Pierceton from Friday until Sunday evening at #1 Stop Bait and Tackle, LLC at 3522 N S.R. 13, filled with pro and amateur knife and tomahawk throwing, camping, prize tables, and food trucks.

Registration for pros and amateurs on the day of events will be $80 per person. PayPal and cash will be accepted.

Saturday:

  • 8 a.m. -Registration for Knife and Tomahawk Throwing Saturday
  • 8:30 a.m. - Throwers' meeting
  • 9 a.m. - Amateur Rotation
  • Pro Rotational to follow
  • Amateur Tomahawk to follow
  • Pro Tomahawk to follow
  • The awards will be on Saturday evening.

Sunday:

  • Silhouette
  • Speed Knives
  • Long Distance Knife
  • Long Distance Hawk
  • New - No Drop Ninja Challenge
  • New - Fast Draw- Available for those that did not qualify for Fast Draw Friday
  • (any event that was not able to complete on scheduled day and time)

Organizers say everyone is welcome to camp on the property and stay until Monday.

Food truck details will be there through Sunday. Registered throwers will get their free meal ticket when they register with Amy.

T-shirts will be available for purchase at the event.

48th Annual Nappanee Apple Festival

Nappanee Apple Festival

Organizers say the annual Nappanee Apple Festival is home to Indiana's largest apple pie at seven feet wide and has been going on for 48 years.

The fest, known for its family-friendly atmosphere, fun activities, and shopping, is sure to be a good time no matter your age.

Besides games, shopping, rides, and sweet treats, there will be the 48th Annual Nappanee Apple Festival Parade at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday.

The parade will kick off with a special flyover by The Hooligans Flight Team.

The festival goes on until Sunday.
