Wheels in Winona

Beep, beep! Fire up your engines and head down to Winona Lake Park on Saturday, May 31st from 9:30 AM to 2:00 PM for the first annual Wheels in Winona community event. Admission is free with donations being accepted for the Winona Lake Limitless Park project.

Wheels in Winona is an opportunity for kids to see, touch, and interact with dozens of unique vehicles. A variety of businesses will be showcasing fire trucks, a cement truck, garbage trucks, Hummers, an airplane, police cars, a semi, and farm equipment. From 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM, a “siren-free” time has been designated for those with sensitive hearing. In addition to the vehicles, food will be available for purchase from one of several vendors with a portion of the proceeds being donated to Winona Lake Limitless Park.

The event is being held in conjunction with the groundbreaking for phase one of the Winona Lake Limitless Park project. At 9:30 AM, officials from the Town of Winona Lake, local businesses, and community members will gather for a ceremony commemorating the event. Those in attendance will be registered to win a ride in one of the Wheels in Winona vehicles.

Wheels in Winona is one of several community events planned to help raise funds and awareness for Winona Lake Limitless Park. The limitless park concept was championed by the Winona Lake Parks Department, Kosciusko Leadership Academy, and members of the community to bring a “limitless” play attraction for children of all abilities to Kosciusko County.

Erin Porter, Chairperson of the Winona Lake Limitless Park Committee explained, "Years of community-driven support have brought Winona Lake Limitless Park from an idea, to a grassroots movement, to a community-wide project. Wheels in Winona and the groundbreaking are truly a celebration of the community’s collective effort to bring Winona Lake Limitless Park to life."

Amenities will include a splash pad, a beyond ADA-compliant playground, sensory stations for children with visual, auditory, and cognitive challenges, year-round restrooms, additional parking, new sidewalks and landscaping. The primary sponsor for phase one is K21 Health Foundation in coordination with numerous public and private donors.
