Woman armed with machete robs Van Buren Hotel

The Shipshewana Police Department is investigating an armed robbery at the Van Buren Hotel that happened early Saturday morning. Police say the female suspect was armed with a machete.

Police and the La Grange County Sheriff’s Department arrived to the scene at approximately 1 a.m. and began searching for the suspect.

Witnesses told police a woman wearing a ski mask and dark clothing entered the lobby of the hotel armed with a large machete. She threatened the employee and demanded money.

She left the hotel with an undisclosed amount of money and got into an older model car with a second suspect inside, reports said.
The vehicle headed north on SR 5.
