Woman found dead of hypothermia several hours after crash on Strawberry Road

ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. – A woman was found dead following a crash on Strawberry Road Friday night, the St. Joseph County Police Department reported.

At 5:40 a.m. on Saturday, officers were called to the area of Strawberry and Hurd Roads for a report of a woman lying unresponsive near the road.

When officers and medics arrived, they found the deceased body of 21-year-old Alexis Piotrowicz of Rolling Prairie.

Approximately 100 yards away, officers found Piotrowicz's vehicle on its roof in a water-filled ditch.

Water rescue crews checked the vehicle and water and found no other passengers.

Piotrowicz’s purse and phone were found in the water inside the vehicle.

Investigators later learned she was last seen leaving Fish Lake at 11 p.m. on Friday.

The St. Joseph County Coroner made a preliminary determination that Piotrowicz died from hypothermia following the crash, reports said.
