Woman severely injured after she was held 12 days by her boyfriend

STURGIS, Mich. -- A woman suffered severe injuries while she was held against her will for 12 days by her boyfriend, according to Sturgis Police.

On March 20, Sturgis Police were called to Parkview Hospital in La Grange where the victim of an assault was being treated for severe injuries.

The victim told police her boyfriend had been holding her against her will for the last 12 days. She was assaulted multiple times and he had restrained her periodically to keep her from leaving, reports said.

During the investigation, police served a search warrant at the home of the 37-year-old suspect.

The suspect was located at a family member’s house and was taken into custody on charges of assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder, domestic violence and unlawful confinement.

He was released from jail on March 23.

While continuing the investigation, additional charges were sought against the suspect, including 8 counts of criminal sexual conduct in the first degree.

The suspect was arrested again on March 25.

The suspect is awaiting arraignment on the additional charges.
