Youth clean up Benton Harbor

BENTON HARBOR, Mich.-- Youth who live in Benton Harbor volunteered Saturday to help clean up their neighborhood.

“It’s a lot of broken beer bottles, broken glass bottles, plastic bags, cups, bowls," said volunteer Jaela Ewing.

The volunteers said they want the littering to stop.

“We don’t want our city to be looking like a trash dump, we want our city to be healthy, clean, nice,” said Ewing.

The youth say they aren't waiting for someone to make it right, they are taking matters into their own hands.

“Benton Harbor there is a lot of classic architecture, there are a lot of beautiful older buildings that are here, that if they were fixed up, this city could become a showplace. It really could be,” said organizer Bryan Tutton.

The city wide clean up happens twice a year. The next one is in the fall.
