12-year-old motorcycle passenger dead following Wednesday crash with semi-truck
ABC 57 BRIDGMAN, Mich. -- A 12-year-old girl is dead after being thrown from her father's motorcycle in a crash with a semi-truck on Wednesday afternoon.
The Michigan State Police Niles Post says the crash occurred around 1 p.m., in the westbound lanes of I-94 near mile-marker 16.
MSP's initial investigation determined a 43-year-old Kalamazoo man was operating his motorcycle with his daughter as a passenger when he struck a semi-truck.
Police say the girl was thrown from the motorcycle before being struck by the semi-truck.
The girl suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The motorcyclist suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to Corewell Health Lakeland Hospital in St. Joseph for treatment.
The father and daughter were wearing helmets at the time of the crash.
The driver of the semi-truck was not injured.
Police say alcohol and drugs are not believed to be factors in the crash.
The crash investigation remains ongoing.
