2 Hospitalized after car crashes head-on into tree

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Two people were rushed to the hospital after their car crashed head-on into a tree.

It happened around 3:30 a.m. Wednesday on Sunnyside and Belmont Avenue in South Bend. 

Police said both the male driver and the passenger were trapped inside and had to be cut out of the 2000 Lincoln Continental by firefighters.

The two were transported to Memorial Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Officials believe alcohol could be a factor in the crash. 

Police are investigating the cause of the accident.
