BENTON HARBOR, Mich. -- A 20-year-old man in Benton Harbor has been charged with the murder of a 15-year-old boy shot Wednesday, Sept. 17.

On Wednesday, Sept. 17, officers responded to the 1000 block of Buss Avenue for reports of a shooting, where they found a wounded 15-year-old. He was transported to Corewell Hospital in St. Joseph before being transferred to Borgess Hospital in Kalamazoo. He succumbed to his injuries on Saturday, Sept. 20.

During the investigation, a 20-year-old man was detained as a person of interest. Additionally, a 16-year-old was sent to the Berrien Juvenile Center.

The 20-year-old was moved to the Berrien County Jail, where he was charged with Carrying a Concealed Weapon. When the Berrien County Prosecutor's Office learned of the 15-year-old's death, they upgraded his charges to Open Murder and Assault with Intent to Murder.

The victim's name has been withheld due to his age, and the 20-year-old's name is currently being withheld pending his arraignment.
