2025 Climatology Highlights

NOW: 2025 Climatology Highlights

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- With the passing year comes a new climatology report, Meteorologist Oliver Moster has a look at what stood out in this year’s recap.

Warmer and drier are the headlines for 2025’s Climate Wrapped in South Bend, with 2025 strangely containing one of the highest single-day rain totals in a couple of years.

This year was plagued with long stretches of dry weather with the fifth driest fall on record but also included seven days where rainfall exceeded one inch, including just last week, where South Bend saw 1.9 inches of rain, the highest single day rainfall since the end of June 2021.

2024’s average temperature was the hottest on record, but 2025 was thankfully a little cooler, although with hot stretches extending into September and October, summer lingered a little longer than most of us would like.

Some other notable events include the mid-May Dust Storm, second most humid July, and the fourth least snowy spring, but the second snowiest November, thanks in no small part to the nine inches South Bend saw after Thanksgiving, record setting for that day.

Overall, it was slightly warmer than average, and drier than average year, and we thank you for sticking with the ABC57 weather team with every curveball Mother Nature throws our way.

These milder conditions we’re seeing might be the only stretch of above average conditions in Michiana this January.

Look at the temperature outlook issued by the Climate Prediction Center. The map shows expected temperatures in the back half of the 10-day forecast, with warm conditions to end the week and then a drop into more normal temps and snow this weekend.

Generally, the area will see slightly above average conditions.

For the three-to-four-week outlook, covering the last two weeks of the month, we are expecting average or below average conditions.

So, with the warmup this week, get out and enjoy it before the gradual cooldown to more average conditions to end the month.
