70 Gallons of oil spilled at Palisades Nuclear Power Plant

COVERT TOWNSHIP, Mich. -- The Palisades Nuclear Power Plant notified the Nuclear Regulatory Commission about an oil spill that happened at approximately 6:30 p.m. Thursday.

The report says the oil leak was discovered on EX-07 Safeguards Transformer 1-1 sprayed outside the transformer containment berm.

Approximately 70 gallons was spilled.

The incident report says the oil did not go into any water and has no drain path to any body of water.

"The oil is not in the water cannot get into the water and there is no pathway for it to have an impact on the public or put anybody in danger," said Viktoria Mitlyng of the NRC.

Workers at the plant were required to submit a report to the NRC because of the size of the spill.
