SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- American Airlines is set to transition travel from South Bend International Airport to O'Hare International Airport from a luxury motorcoach to an aircraft.

Officials say this change will take effect on Oct. 5.

Flights will occur three times a day with the airline's CRJ-700 regional aircraft with dual-class cabins and 65 seats.

The motorcoach route between SBN and O'Hare will continue through Oct. 4.

Passengers who've already booked between SBN and O'Hare on American Airlines after Oct. 4 will be automatically rebooked and will receive an email notification from the airline, officials said.

“It was one-year ago in October that American connected SBN to another of the airline’s hubs, marking a third nonstop route from SBN,” said SBN CEO and Executive Director Mike Daigle. “We are thrilled the route has performed well and will now be operating with an upgraded regional aircraft, offering convenient options for travelers.”
