SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The South Shore Line would like to thank first responders by offering free rides Sept. 6 - 11.

The invitation is extended to doctors, nurses, EMTs, paramedics, firefighters, other medical personnel, along with law enforcement, including police officers, correctional officers, 911 dispatchers, TSA agents, and other security.

NIPSCO employees will also receive free rides as recognition for their work following the recent severe storms in the Northwest Indiana and Chicagoland area.

First responders will need to present their work ID to South Shore train personnel to verify employment at a medical facility, hospital, doctor’s office, fire department, police station, prison, Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP), or NIPSCO.

The South Shore Line gives back to the community throughout the year by offering free rides on various designated days.

Coming up in November, the train will offer free transportation to veterans, active-duty military, and reserves members for Veteran's Day. More details can be found on the South Shore Line's social media.
