ABC 57 Exclusive: Parent reacts to bus driver sex scandal

SOUTH BEND, Ind.- A former South Bend Community School Corporation bus driver is facing felony charges for allegedly having a sexual relationship with a student.

Monisha Simpson, 32, was charged last Friday, Jan. 20, with two counts of Child Seduction (a Class D Felony). The St. Joseph County Prosecutor's Office said that charges stem from an inappropriate relationship she allegedly had with a 16-year-old male Clay High School student.

Thursday night a parent came forward, her four kids had Simpson as a school bus driver.

"I thought she was nice. She was strict with the kids, she didn't put up with a lot of stuff with them," Deanna Wegnerowski said.

"I think sometimes she was nice," Generosity's 6-year-old daughter said.

Wegnerowski has four kids, 14, 11, 10 and 6, all were passengers on Simpson's school bus.

"I couldn't believe it. My jaw dropped, basically to the floor, I couldn't believe it," Wegnerowski said.

The family was sitting around the TV when the news came on the kids jumped up when they saw the mug shot of their former school bus driver.

"To find out this way, on the TV news it's a complete shock. Why didn't we know? Why weren't we told?" Wegnerowski asked.

She and her husband think they should have been notified when their children's school bus driver changed, especially under the circumstances.

"Keep the parents in a better loop please. We need to know sometimes, what happened." Wegnerowski asked of school officials.
