SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Regional winners of the Radio Television Digital News Association's (RTDNA) Edward R. Murrow Awards are being announced this month and, on May 20, ABC57 was informed the station won the top prize in two categories of the prestigious awards.

ABC57 (WBND), which is the local American Broadcasting Company affiliate and owned by Weigel Broadcasting, is positioned in the RTDNA's Region 7, which comprises Illinois, Indiana, Michigan and Ohio.

According to the RTDNA, no one across those four states had a better investigative news story than ABC57's Kevin Warmhold, who brought home the award for Best Investigative Reporting.

In addition, ABC57's Allison Hayes won Best Sports Reporting.

During the 2025 Notre Dame season, Hayes highlighted local resident and Notre Dame sports fan Helen Weeks, who turned 90 on Oct. 5, 2024 and attended her first Fighting Irish football game that season.

Warmhold earned his award for his dedicated coverage of a young boy who was attacked by an off-duty police K9 while waiting at his school bus stop.

Both works will advance to the National Murrow Award competition.
