Pulaski County weighs stricter solar rules amid resident concerns
SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The City of South Bend came to an agreement that the former YMCA building on Northside Boulevard will be torn down due to its current conditions.
It's reported that the building has major structural issues with reoccurring vandalism on the property and frequent squatters inhabiting the building.
"We wanted to make sure we demolish it sooner rather than later, to remove that risk to the public," said Joseph Molnar, City of South Bend Assistant Director of Growth and Opportunity Director, "even if someone is entering a building illegally, we want to make sure that they're not, you know, going to be subject to any type of harm to them if they did get into the building."
A demolition date for the building is yet to be determined.
