American soldiers killed in Afghanistan stands at 2,000

After nearly 11 years of fighting, the death toll for American soldiers in the Afghanistan war is at 2,000.

The first 1,000 died in the first nine years of the war. The next 1,000 came in the last 27 months.

The intense fighting prompted President Obama to send an additional 33,000 troops in 2010.

The average age of a soldier killed is 26.
