NILES, Mich. -- Nationally recognized artist Kelsey Montague has completed a mural in downtown Niles of a pair of wings, similar to the Instagram worthy wing mural she painted in Nashville.
The mural was commissioned by the non-profit Remarkable Inc. It is painted on the exterior wall of a building off Front and Main streets.
“What’s great about, especially sharing my art online, is that I have a lot of people that will follow where I go, and they’ll reach out and say ‘Hey, we want to bring you out to our town and we want to do something for our community, we want to create an art piece.’ And that’s what happened here in Niles, Michigan. Some great people here commissioned me to come out, they wanted to give back to the community," Montague said.
The wings are a great spot for a photo.
“’What Lifts You’ is again, inspiring people to take to social media or online and do something that’s positive and something that’s uplifting, because I think we always need more of that in the world. As an artist, I want my art to be focused on that and inspiring people, and even just getting someone to smile is worth it for me," Montague said.
There are hidden images throughout the mural with a nod to Niles, including an apple tree for the Four Flags Area Apple Festival.
