Baby formula changes for Indiana WIC users

As of October 1, 2023, Indiana WIC participants, previously offered the Gerber brand baby formula, will receive Enfamil instead.

The Indiana Women, Infants and Children (WIC) Program have ended their contract with Gerber, due to a federal regulation that WIC agencies competitively bid for an infant formula rebate every four years, affecting more than 24,000 clients.

Despite the change in formulas, Laura Chavez, Director of Indiana WIC, says the brand change does not change the nutrition babies are receiving.

"WIC Nutritionists in our clinics will ensure that all babies whose infant formula is transitioning will still receive the same level of benefits and nutrition," she said.

Due to differing WIC benefit timeframes for clients, some clients may see Gerber benefits through the end of October.

WIC staff will continue their partnership with grocery and pharmacy vendors to support the demand for benefits for both Gerber and Enfamil in this transition period from October 1 through October 30.
