Ballard Elementary 2nd graders put service to snowbirds

NILES, Mich-- Not sure what to do with your house plants this winter? Some Niles elementary students will take care of them.

Ballard Elementary kicked off its 'Senior Snowbird Service Project' this week. More than 120 second graders will test out their green thumbs taking care of the plants until the owners return.

Students told us they’re excited.

"We are learning that taking care of the earth is just very special and we need to respect everything,” says Ballard Elementary 2nd grader Dakota Schneider. “ I'm glad we are helping this. I am just happy we are doing this"

Ballard Elementary is collecting plants through tomorrow. All you have to do is put your name on your plant and leave watering instructions.
