BCHD expects E-Coli test results by Friday, beaches remain closed
BERRIEN COUNTY, Mich. -- The Berrien County Health Department has retested the water at five local beaches and is hoping to get the results back as soon as Friday, Aug. 9.
"We are working as quickly as possible to lift the no-swim advisories at five beaches due to water quality and get them back open for the weekend," BCHD officials said.
According to the county, the Environmental Health team found high levels of E-Coli in the swimming areas of Jean Klock Park, Rocky Gap County Park, Town Line Beach, Warren Dunes State Park and Weko Beach, and no-swim advisories were issued for each of them on Aug. 6.
"Due to dangerous lake conditions the past few days, additional sampling was delayed until today (Aug. 8)," BCHD officials said. "The additional samplings are now being tested by our laboratory partners, with results expected Friday, Aug. 9."
Health officials say the test results will be posted on Beach Guard and the no-swim advisories will be lifted once the E. coli levels are at a safe level for human contact.
