Benton Harbor Area Schools announce new boilers ready to fire up mid-September

ABC 57

BENTON HARBOR, Mich. -- Benton Harbor Area Schools announced the new boilers are set to be fired up in mid-September at Benton Harbor High School and Fair Plain East Elementary School.

BHAS has since learned, despite the belief that the original contract included new temperature controls in each classroom, none were added.

Many school board members are upset by this, and BHAS' lawyers have sent a letter to the contractor.

Board members said at the Aug. 26 meeting that they never would've approved of the $4.3 million project knowing it didn't include individual controls.

They're concerned that classrooms still won't be warm enough during winter.

BHAS is now planning to evaluate all heating units in the buildings in September and make repairs/replacements before it's cold.

BHAS remains concerned that it will have to pay even more money for that, so board members want lawyers to try and negotiate that with the original contractor.
