BENTON HARBOR, Mich. -- With a heat index reaching triple digits, the Benton Harbor Fire Department set up Spray and Play at Pete Mitchell City Center Park to help the community cool off.
Firefighter Justin Barden explained how small events like this give the department an opportunity to connect with the community in a non-emergency setting.
“It’s a joy to see the community in a good mood and playing. Anytime we can do it. It’s great to feel that.”
The hundred-foot hose set-up has sprung up a few times already this season, and the department plans to continue the tradition as long as the heat keeps up.
