Benton Harbor Public Library renamed after longtime community leader
City of Benton Harbor BENTON HARBOR, Mich. -- The City of Benton Harbor announced a new sign is officially up at the Benton Harbor Public Library in tribute to a community leader's decades of service.
The library now bears the name Mamie L. Yarbrough, a Berrien County Commissioner who has also served on the Benton Harbor Public Library Board for 26 years, with over a decade as board president.
City officials say Yarbrough has been an advocate for keeping the library modern, welcoming, and accessible for all.
During her leadership, city officials say the library expanded access to technology and strengthened partnerships across the city and Benton Charter Township.
Officials added the library has become a hub for books, computers, learning programs, and children’s resources.
The city is now inviting the community to the library on Dec. 30 at 11:45 a.m. to celebrate with a dedication ceremony.
