Benton Harbor renews library mill tax

BENTON HARBOR, Mich. – A ballot proposal got the "okay" from voters Tuesday night, despite concerns over voter confusion.

The Benton Harbor Library renewed its tax for operating costs. There was concern it wouldn't pass because of the "vote no" efforts in the city for charter changes on the ballot.

It seems voters were able to tell the difference in the initiatives. The library mill passed by more than 60 percent.

The renewal will keep the library operating through 2022. The election was the first time the library has asked voters for money in nearly 30 years.
