Benton Harbor school year extended

BENTON HARBOR, Mi. -- The Benton Harbor school board of education voted unanimously to extend this year's school year until June 6.  That's one week, or a total of 4 instructional days, longer than the normal schedule.

"This will get us to 171 days," said Dr. Leonard Seawood, Superintendent of Benton Harbor Schools.

He said no one expected this type of winter. While kids had a few days off to be safe from the frigid temperatures and snow, the consequences will now be felt in the heat of summer.

"Everyone knows it's been a very difficult year in terms of inclement weather, the winter storms really hit us hard," says Seawood.
