Bicyclist arrested for failing to stop for police officer

ELKHART, Ind. -- A bicyclist was arrested for allegedly failing to stop for a police officer attempting to conduct a traffic stop, according to Elkhart Police.

Around 2 a.m. Sunday, an officer was traveling west on Marion Street when they saw a bicycle with no headlights headed south on 5th Street.

The bicyclist failed to stop for the stop sign at Marion and 5th streets, police said.

As the officer turned south onto 5th, he saw the bicyclist drive onto the sidewalk.

The officer said the bicyclist did not stop for the officer even though the emergency lights were activated, police said.

The officer yelled at the bicyclist several times to get him to stop.

When the bicyclist finally stopped, he was detained.

The man, 36-year-old Sean Sparks, was taken into custody for a preliminary charge of resisting law enforcement.
