Blood donors needed as SBMF supplies drop

The South Bend Medical Foundation issued an alert to the community Tuesday, saying there is a shortage of blood.

SBMF says for certain types of blood, it has less than a one day supply.

“We are asking for the media’s help in spreading the word about our need for blood,” says Dr. Bobbie Sutton, Medical Director of Blood Bank and Blood Donor Services. “Donating takes just a little bit of time and could be the difference between life and death for someone in the midst of a significant illness or trauma.”

If you are interested in donating blood, you can either make an appointment or walk in at any of the South Bend Medical Foundation locations, as well as public blood drives around the area.
