SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- A body was found in the East Race Wednesday afternoon by South Bend Firefighters who were training in the area, according to South Bend Police.
Police were dispatched to 400 N. Niles at 4:37 p.m. after the body was discovered.
Police said the Department of Natural Resources will be handling the investigation.
The coroner said because there was little decomposition, he believes the body had not been in the water for very long.
An autopsy will be conducted Thursday in Fort Wayne at 10 a.m.
