Buchanan asks for public input on increasing public river front access

BERRIEN COUNTY, Mich. --The city of Buchanan asks for the publics input once again, for their proposed improvement plan in improving public access and its northside riverfront areas of the St. Joseph River.

Ashley Regal, Buchanan City Main Street Manager and Assistant Director of Community Development, said some improvements for protection of the river, and are ecology-based.

Other proposed improvements include Riverfront Park upgrades, a Pokagon Band of Potawatomi-inspired history trail, bike trail, boardwalk, camping area and boutique restaurant/inn.

For now, the city requests opinions from its surrounding communities and citizens; but Regal hopes neighboring communities will join in, to eventually create interconnected river-based recreation.

You can find the Community survey at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/buchananwaterfront

The collected information from the survey will be used as a guide for the planning process for the project in effort to make a waterfront master plan for Buchanan.

This survey will be open from April 24 to May 22.
