Buchanan community collecting Christmas cards for overseas troops

BUCHANAN, Mich. -- Folks in Buchanan are doing their part to make sure troops overseas get some holiday cheer.

So far, they've collected about 150 Christmas cards to send to service members abroad. Red Cross is in charge of the effort.

Simply, write a short holiday greeting, and put "Dear Service Member" on the card. It may not sound like much, but organizers say it makes a big difference.

"Even though you have thousands of people around you all the time when you're overseas it's lonely, because your family is here, you're there,” said Air Force Veteran Bob Hess

Anyone can send cards to the troops. They just need to be in the mail by Dec. 7.
