BUCHANAN, Mich. - Buchanan City Manager Tim Lynch confirmed with ABC57 News there's been several cases of residents being wrongly charged on their water bill.
Lynch explained the city uses an independent contractor to mail out water bills to residents and something in the system occurred causing an estimated 1,000 to 1,500 residents to be incorrectly charged.
The city became aware of the issue when residents began coming in to pay their bills.
Lynch says nobody will be overcharged and those who've already been charged will be given credit.
Lynch adds the City of Buchanan sincerely apologizes for the issue.
"If they could wait for us to send out the corrected bills and go by those ones. And we're putting a bill insert in there saying please disregard the bill you got previously. And we're gonna have to do some monitoring and make sure everybody comes in with the proper amounts and figures and things like that," says Lynch.
