ELKHART, Ind. -- The Elkhart Fire Department reports crews responded to a house fire in the 700 block of Markle Avenue around 4:40 a.m., Tuesday.

Fire officials say upon arrival, a vehicle was on fire in the home's attached garage.

The fire made its way into the kitchen before spreading through the first floor quickly, according to the report.

The home's second floor sustained moderate smoke damage, fire officials said.

Three adults and a dog all made it out of the home safely.

No injuries or deaths were reported.

The Red Cross has since been called to assist the homeowners.

Fire officials say the fire appears accidental but remains under investigation.
