Chicago cardinal addresses sex abuse claims

CHICAGO -- Catholics in Chicago got a letter along with their church bulletins Sunday from the Archdiocese of Chicago.

The letter is part of a bigger investigation into sex abuse claims against several priests in and around Chicago.

Some parishioners that represent a group of victims said the letter fell short but others said they welcomed the information.

"I've really never understood why the church kind of swept it under the carpet. I mean such a serious, serious thing. Yeah, I think it's time, over time to do it," said parishioner Serena Merchant.

The Chicago Sun-Times is reporting that church files will be handed over to attorneys this week as part of a lawsuit against the Archdiocese of Chicago.
