ELKHART, Ind. -- The city of Elkhart and the Indiana Black Expo are celebrating the inagural 'Leroy Robinson Week' the 18th-26th.
Leroy Robinson founded the Elkhart Chapter of the IBE, and also helped start chapters in South Bend, Fort Wayne and Michigan City.
He served roles at both the local and state levels of IBE, and his impacts on the city helped the Elkhart Chapter earn the 'Chapter of the Year' award 8 years in a row.
After his passing last year, chapter leaders vowed to keep his name and legacy alive. They've taken the foundation Robinson built and continued work in the community, earning the same 'Chapter of the Year' award two more years in a row, making for 10 censecutive years.
Events are still planned for Thursday and Saturday of this week.
Thursday is The Leroy Robinson Arts and Cultural Pavilion, a showcase of local African-American artists, authors and designers. That takes place at the McNaughton Park Pavilion.
On Saturday, the chapter will host the Leroy Robinson Mayor's Reception and Chapter of the Year Celebration at The Winchester Mansion.
You can learn more about the Indiana Black Expo Elkhart Chapter on its website, or visit the chapter's Facebook page.
