City of Goshen advising against water activities on Elkhart River due to sewer overflow

GOSHEN, Ind.—The City of Goshen on Thursday said the Elkhart River was not safe for water activities over the next few days.

In a Facebook post, the city said that a sanitary sewer overflow on Thursday afternoon made its way into a sewer connecting to a ditch, which connects to the Elkhart River.

The City is asking that people refrain from kayaking or performing other water activities on the river north of the Goshen Dam until October 14, in the evening. The City also said not to use the canoe launch at Rogers Park during that time.

However, water activities are safe on the Millrace Canal, the City said.
