City of South Bend offering utility assistance sign-up events in November

SOUTH BEND, Ind. - The City of South Bend is hosting a number of sign-up events in November to help qualified South Bend residents apply for utility assistance programs.
During the events, staff members from various utility organizations will walk residents through how to sign up for the Utility Assistance Program and the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program.
The following events have been scheduled so far. More events will be added to the city's website once they are confirmed.
Thursday, November 3
- 4 – 7 p.m. Western Branch Library, 611 S. Lombardy Dr.

Residents must bring the following documents to sign up for the Utility Assistance Program:
- Most recent water utility bill
- Income documents for everyone in the household
- If you’re a tenant or your name is not the primary name on your utility account, have you landlord or account holder’s name, phone number, and email address ready
Residents must bring the following documents to sign up for the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program/Low-Income Household Water Assistance Program:
- Photo ID
- Social Security Cards for each household member or REAL ID
- Income documentation for the past three months for each adult age 18 and over
- If 18 or older and in high school or college, class schedule
- If pregnant, documentation from your physician to count unborn child as HH member
- For renters, a lease or Landlord Affidavit if a utility is included in your rent
- Copy of your most recent electric utility bill
- Copy of your most recent heating bill
- Copy of your most recent water bill
